The Gas Laws
- Gas particles are constantly moving in random directions at high speeds.
- The particles exert a force when they bounce off the walls of a container.
- Billions of these tiny forces over a given area is the gas pressure.
Graph of Pressure and Volume
The greater the pressure the smaller the volume
Negative correlation between pressure and volume (line goes down)
Negative correlation between pressure and volume (line goes down)
Graph of Pressure and 1/Volume
Pressure and 1/Volume are directly proportional (straight line through origin).
If you double the pressure you will half the volume
If you double the pressure you will half the volume
Boyle's Law
When using Boyle's Law, we must have a fixed mass of gas and a constant temperature
